Information technology refers to the use of computers for data storage, retrieval, transmission, and manipulation. Instead of being employed for personal or leisure purposes, the field is often used in corporate activities.

An information technology system is typically an information system, a communications system, or, more specifically, a computer system that is operated by a small number of people and includes all hardware, software, and ancillary devices. There is content overlap between this part and the Engineering Library's Computer Science section.
